For the unversed, “Oh My Gotto” is a meme series from the video game Blue Archive, featuring characters like Momoi and Aris exclaiming, “Oh my gotto, it’s X,” where “X” is a specific subject.

The characters then dance and sing a related song. These memes, which utilize AI to replicate the characters’ voices, initially gained popularity on TikTok in March 2024 and spread to YouTube in the following months.

The trend began on February 1, 2024, when TikToker @dripkiddoofficial posted a video with a chibi version of Aris saying in Japanese, “Oh my god, it’s Korn,” while looking at an image of corn, and then singing Korn’s “Freak On a Leash.”


This video amassed over 3.2 million views in four months. Though it didn’t use the “oh my gotto” phrase, it is the earliest known example of the meme format.

Over the next few weeks, @dripkiddoofficial continued to post similar videos, with several going viral.

Oh My Gotto Meme Trend Origin

In April, the TikToker @cheesewizrad posted a version referencing the LeBron James “You Are My Sunshine” memes. This version included Momoi saying “oh my gotto,” marking the first use of this specific pronunciation, and it garnered over 3.6 million views in two months.

The meme surged in popularity from April to June 2024 on both TikTok and YouTube. Notable examples include:

On April 11, YouTuber Jame ButGame’s version referencing Kamen Rider, which received over 300,000 views in two months. On April 18, YouTuber Frisian’s version, which garnered over 369,000 views in the same period.


In addition, on May 18, TikToker @cheesewizrad’s version referencing Drake’s diss track “Not Like Us”.
