Domestic and T20 career:
Firstly, On January 25, 2017, he made his List A debut for the West Indies Under-19s in the 2016–17 Regional Super50. He was included in the West Indies team for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup before making his List A debut.
On August 4, 2017, he made his Twenty20 debut for St Lucia Stars in the 2017 Caribbean Premier League. On November 2, 2017, he made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in the 2017–18 Regional Four Day Competition.
He was picked to the Cricket West Indies B Team roster for the inaugural Global T20 Canada competition in June 2018. With eleven dismissals in seven matches for the Cricket West Indies B Team, he was the tournament’s highest wicket-taker. He was appointed to the St Lucia Zouks roster for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League in July 2020.
International Career:
He was included in the West Indies One Day International (ODI) team for the series against India in October 2018. On October 24, 2018, he made his ODI debut for the West Indies against India. He was called up to the West Indies Twenty20 International (T20I) team for the series against England in March 2019. On March 8, 2019, he made his T20I debut for the West Indies against England.
McCoy was picked to the West Indies team for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in September 2021.

On Monday night at the Brabourne Stadium, Obed McCoy has been entrusted with the most difficult task. The Windies spinner, who was making his IPL debut and was playing his first game since October 2021. He had already been blasted for 38 runs in three overs without taking a wicket. Jackson carelessly pushed the slower leg-side delivery to reach the hands of the fielder at short fine leg after two runs on the opening pitch. For KKR, it was a heartbreaker, but for Rajasthan and Obed, it was a joyous occasion. And the Windies pacer enacted Allu Arjun’s Pushpa motion to commemorate his first IPL wicket.
After Jackson’s departure, KKR’s hopes were hinged on Umesh, and Varun Chakravarthy returned the strike to him. He had already struck 21 off 8. However, McCoy, on the other hand, capped it off in style with long delivery. Umesh attempted to slug it across, but the ball banged against his midsection and leg.
Rajasthan won by seven wickets and climbed to second place in the points standings.
