Nupur Sharma studied at the Delhi Public School and did her further studies at the University of Delhi and later on at the London school of economics, London, England. She has done her LLM in London. Her height is 5 feet 3 inches and her weight is 50 kgs as of 2022. Her father’s name is Vinay Sharma.
Nupur Sharma Political Career
Nupur Sharma has been active in politics since she was in college, at Delhi University. When Nupur was studying at DU she was elected as president of the Delhi University Student Union, DUSU on the ticket of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad(ABVP). She has also been the youth ambassador of Teach for India which is affiliated with teach for America.
Nupur has held on several posts in the BJP including the national executive committee of BJP’s youth wing, Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha BJYM, Member of the Yuva working committee of BJP, and member of the state executive committee, BJP, Delhi. In the elections of 2015, Nupur contested against the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and veteran Congress leader Kiran Walia from the Delhi constituency. However, she emerged as a runner-up in the elections.
Nupur Sharma Controversy
On 5 June 2022 Nupur Sharma came into the limelight after being expelled from the primary membership of the Bhartiya Janta Party. She made a derogatory remark against Prophet Muhammad.
‘The Bharatiya Janta Party is also against any ideology that insults or demeans any sect’s religion. The Bhartiya Janta Party does not promote such people or philosophy, the Bhartiya Janta Party respects all religions,” BJP gave this statement.
Later on, Nupur Sharma withdrew her statement and stated that it was never her intention to hurt anyone’s religion or intention. However, her statement was made on a debate where Muslims were persistently mocking the Shivling, something which is considered extremely sacred in Hinduism. However, despite scores of notable Muslims in the country belittling God Shiva, there has been no apology tendered by Islamists who have gone onto publicly call for beheading Nupur much like Kamlesh Tiwari.
