NRL player Troy Dargan died in a motorcycle accident while on holiday in the Cook Islands. On Christmas Day, Aria Sports Group, the playmaker’s management, verified the sad news on social media.

The 26-year-old Dargan had just agreed to a two-year deal with the Canberra Raiders for the next campaign. Aria Sports stated:

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of TJ’s tragic passing overnight. He and his family were holidaying in the Cook Islands where TJ was involved in a motorcycle accident.

They further stated:

TJ will be greatly missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Who was Troy Dargan?

Troy Dargan was an Australian-born Cook Islands international rugby league football player who played as a five-eighth or halfback. He was born on October 15, 1997 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The 26-year-old measured 174 cm (5 ft 9 in) tall.

He attended Knox Grammar School in Wahroonga, Sydney, where he was a member of the Australian Schoolboys team in 2014.

A look at Troy Dargan’s career

Before making the big decision to sign with the Parramatta Eels, Troy Dargan played junior rugby league with the Cabramatta Two Blues for several years.

Against South Africa in a 2021 Rugby League World Cup qualifying game, Dargan made his debut for the Cook Islands internationally. The South Sydney Rabbitohs revealed in August 2019 that Dargan has signed a two-year contract with the team.

Dargan played rugby league as a young player for the NSW under-20s and the Australian schoolboys. He was chosen as the halfback in the Holden Cup team of the year in 2016 while he was a Parramatta player because of his exceptional talent. He had a long playing career, having played for the likes of South Sydney Rabbitohs and Brisbane.

Troy Dargan passed away on December 24 at the age of 26 in Aitutaki, Cook Islands. While on vacation in Aitutaki, Cook Islands, he passed away in a motorcycle accident with the tragic news first announced by his management, Aria Sports Group.

The family of Troy Dargan have launched a GoFundMe to assist in the cost of bringing him back to Australia from Cook Islands.
