Prediction

On Thursday, the 2022 Tel Aviv Open’s second round will feature 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic taking on World No. 115 Pablo Andujar.

Although he has experienced some spectacular victories, Djokovic’s year has also been challenging as compared to 2021 which was one of the best years.

Ahead of facing Djokovic, the first-round opponent for Andujar was Thiago Monteiro. For the whole of the first set, both players maintained a fairly consistent serve. To increase his lead to 5-4, the Brazilian scored a break in the ninth game. As a result of his failure to serve out the set, he was broken in the following game.

A tie-break was soon necessary to decide the set, and Andujar eventually prevailed to win. The Spaniard dominated the second set, winning 7-6 (3), 6-1, by racking up six straight games.

Djokovic will enter the match as the heavy favourite. Meanwhile, the Serb has revealed that he had been experiencing wrist problems for some time. He defeated Tiafoe pretty handily in the Laver Cup match, but he appeared to be struggling against Auger-Aliassime. His serve in the game versus the Canadian was somewhat hampered by the wrist injury.

If there’s a big enough issue, it might also have an impact on his performance versus Andujar. Djokovic looked fairly good at the Laver Cup until his injury became problematic even though he hasn’t played many matches recently on hardcourts. If he is totally fit, he should easily defeat the Spaniard; else, we could be in for a shock.
