Head To Head: 8-4

There have been 12 matchups between the two players in just six years. With eight victories and four defeats, Novak Djokovic has the upper hand in their head-to-head matchup. It’s interesting to note that in the last three matches between these players, the 35-year-old Serb has prevailed.

Prediction

Despite only participating in a little amount of tennis in 2022, the Serb had a successful campaign, taking home wins at Wimbledon, the Italian Open, and the ATP Finals, among others.

At the Adelaide International 1, Djokovic won his opening match, a 6-3, 6-2 victory over France’s Constant Lestienne, to kick off his 2023 campaign. In the second round, he played another Frenchman, Quentin Halys, and was broken early in the first set. He battled back, though, and won the tiebreak to take the set. Halys avoided a match point during the closely contested second set to force a further tiebreaker. Djokovic prevailed 7-5 to go to the quarterfinals where he faced Denis Shapovalov beating him 6-3, 6-4, for the 100th tour-level win of his career in Australia.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Russian, who finished second at the last two Australian Opens, defeated Karen Khachanov with ease in a 6-3, 6-3 victory. In 2022, Medvedev had a decent year, winning 45 of his 64 matches, including two championship runs at the Los Cabos Open and the Vienna Open. Additionally, he had second-place results at the Halle Open, the Australian Open, and the Rosmalen Grasscourt Championships.

The Russian came to Adelaide after losing four straight matches and being eliminated early from the ATP Finals in Turin and the Paris Masters 1000. But the 26-year-old got the 2023 campaign off to a great start, winning consecutive matches over Lorenzo Sonego and Miomir Kecmanovic in the first two rounds.

Both the players would be so ready for a super dramatic match but high chances are that the Serbian, with his availability to cover the court, will be able to advance into the final.
