Djokovic arrived here after triumphing in the Tel Aviv Open over the weekend, his 89th career victory. The Serb broke his opponent’s serve in the first game of the match to break the match off to a strong start. He gave a hold of his own in response to make it 2-0. The next game was when Garin joined the group, however he was only able to hold serve once during the opening set. To win the initial match, the Serb won the next four games in a row.

With Djokovic winning five consecutive games to take the match 6-1, 6-1, the second set was also uncompetitive. In addition to earning a 12-match winning streak that stretches all the way to Wimbledon, he has already won his sixth match in a straight without dropping a set.

On the other hand, Botic van de Zandschulp faced Beibit Zhukayev, a local favourite, in the opening round of his Astana campaign. By breaking the Kazakh player’s serve three times, the seasoned World No. 34 defeated him and won the game. Zhukayev seemed to challenge when he broke the Dutchman’s serve to go up 1-0 in the second set. However, Van de Zandschulp won the next six games in a row to take the match 6-1, 6-1.

Both players had identical scorelines in the first round and easily prevailed. This season, Djokovic has missed many tournaments, but he is determined to begin another winning streak. The Dutch player must equal his opponent’s aggressiveness and give it everything he has right away. Even a minor mistake will throw him right back on his heels. Despite van de Zandschulp’s best efforts, Djokovic is unlikely to lose this match given his current form.
