The 52-year-old Viswanathan Anand is certainly beginning to make it appear like it as events unfold this week at 2022 Norway Chess in Stavanger. The former world champion showed that he is still a force to be reckoned with in the Armageddon game, defeating GM Wang Hao and maintaining his commanding lead in the tournament. Meanwhile, World Champion Magnus Carlsen won the tournament’s first classical game. With 7.5 points, Anand is in first place, ahead of GM Wesley So with 6 points and Carlsen with 5.5 points.

Every day, the matches kick-off at 5 PM local time and continue until 9:30 PM local time. Meanwhile, the blitz event took place from 6 PM local time on the first day to 9 PM local time. The tickets are available for purchase here while live stream can be followed on Chess24.

Tournament Format, Rules, and Prize Money Pool

After move 40, each player will have 120 minutes on the clock, with a 10-second increment. If the typical game ends in a tie, the players will be summoned to Armageddon 20 minutes after the draw is completed. Each game is bound to have a winner because if the game finishes in a draw, the black pieces will win.

The player will receive three points for winning the main game. Meanwhile, a player will gain 1.5 points if he draws in the main game but wins Armageddon.

Norway Chess 2022 Round 3 Results, Latest Standings, And Brilliance of Anand

Magnus Carlsen expressed his joy after defeating Teimour Radjabov in Round 3 of the Norway Chess 2022 tournament. With the win, Magnus moved up to third place, while Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, who beat Arjan Tari moved up to fourth, was the only other player to gain all three points.

Vishy Anand and Wesley So defeated Wang Hao and Anish Giri in Armageddon to maintain their perfect record of winning all of their mini-matches thus far. Wesley So and Vishy Anand received 1.5 points for their victories in Armageddon, but Magnus Carlsen and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave received the full 3 points for their victories in classical chess in Round 3.

The overall prize pool for the Tournament is 2,500,000 NOK with 750,000 NOK going to the winner of the tournament and 400,000 NOK for the runner-up.
