After a brief illness, Nigerian Islamic scholar Abdullateef Aliyu Maiyaki, also known as Mufti Yaks passed away at the age of 20.

According to media reports, the well-known motivational speaker Mufti Yaks passed away early on Saturday at Abuja’s National Hospital. As of now, the reason of death remains unknown but the Niger State-born cleric reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the National Hospital in Abuja after a brief illness.

20 year old Yaks was the son of Justice Aliyu Mayaki, a former chief judge of Niger state, northcentral Nigeria. He was single and unmarried at the time of his death.


Mufti Yaks, who was also famous for his motivational speeches, used to go around to promote the message of peace until his death.

Isa Pantami, a former minister of communications and digital economy, verified the sad news on his Facebook page and expressed his sorrow over the cleric’s passing, referring to him as his son. He said: “Inna lil Laahi wa inna ilaiHi Raajiun! Just heard that our beloved son, Abdullateef Aliyu Maitaki, popularly known as MUFTI YAKS passed away.”

He further added, the news this morning of the young Abdul Latif Miyaki Mufti Yaks’ passing has saddened him. He was a gifted young man attempting to uplift the world. May the All-Powerful Allah pardon him, accept his excellent actions, and bestow upon him the highest places in Paradise.

Bashir Ahmad, the former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari’s digital communications aide, prayed for the deceased to enter the highest level of paradise.

Yaks’ passing has also been mourned by a number of online users, with the late preacher trending on X.

Celebrity Nigerian Islamic scholar, motivational speaker, and social media influencer Mufti Yaks was known for his positive outlook and efforts to promote harmony and peace. He was a Nigerian who devoted his life to encouraging people to consider their purpose in life and get ready for the afterlife.

He was influenced by the well-known Islamic speaker from Zimbabwe, Mufti Menk, whose talks struck a chord with listeners.

He had a great deal of love and compassion for children, especially those who grow up in households lacking good family relationships.

On June 1, 2024, Mufti Yaks unfortunately passed away, leaving a profoundly inspirational legacy. In his condolences, his mentor Mufti Menk emphasised on Mufti Yaks’ dedication to uplifting others.

Ismail ibn Musa Menk, the Zimbabwean Islamic scholar who is regarded as the late Mufti Yaks’s role model, made his final respects and prayed to God for eternal peace.
