Head to Head: 1-1

The head-to-head record between the two is tied at 1-1 after they split their previous two encounters. At the 2020 Australian Open, Kyrgios triumphed in five sets to win their previous match.

Prediction

Thanasi Kokkinakis, Benjamin Bonzi, and J.J. Wolf were all defeated on Kyrgios’ way to the fourth round. Daniil Medvedev, the reigning champion and world No. 1, was his recent opponent which was a huge upset attempt by the Aussie player.

The defending champion’s first attempt at serving out the set failed, but his second attempt was successful. The third set was won by Kyrgios, who increased his advantage. In the fourth set, the Australian was even more dominant, breaking twice his rival’s serve to lead 5-1. Kyrgios quickly put an end to the situation by serving out the victory to win 7-6(11), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Meanwhile, To meet Pablo Carreno Busta in the fourth round, Karen Khachanov had to defeat Denis Kudla, Thiago Monterio, and Jack Draper. The Spaniard broke his opponent’s serve to win the first game of the match. This was more than enough to ensure that the opening set was favourable to him.

The following two sets were claimed by Khachanov, who then firmly assumed control. On the other hand, Carreno Busta demonstrated why the US Open is one of his preferred hunting grounds. In the fourth set, he rallied to win and force a decision. In the final set, Khachanov made the pivotal break to go up 4-2. The Russian won the match in the following game after Carreno Busta survived a few match points when serving at 5-3. By scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, he survived.

The doubles experience Kyrgios has gained has helped his touch at the net. He now moves forward frequently to complete the points after winning 29/47 net attempts in the previous round. Khachanov, though, doesn’t act in the same way.

Despite facing a challenging matchup with Carreno Busta in the fourth round, Khachanov prevailed thanks to some strong tennis performance. In their encounters in the fourth round, both players scored more goals than unforced mistakes. Kyrgios, though, made 53 of them as opposed to Khachanov’s 43. It’s even more remarkable given that the Wimbledon finalist played one set fewer than the Russian.

Khachanov is capable of competing head-to-head with Kyrgios, but the latter is in the best shape of his life. The Australian has recently been on a roll, and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to slow down anytime soon.
