Nick Kyrgios hails the big three of tennis, but at the same time thinks tennis needs more devil like characters at Wimbledon 2021

Australian Tennis player Nick Kyrgios remains well aware of the exploits of the current big three of the sport. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are often hailed as the ‘big three’ of the current era. They have gone from strength to strength with each passing year and Nick Kyrgios understands that.

Though he hailed them as ‘gods’, but also feels the game needs people like him. Nick Kyrgios first grabbed the limelight after stunning Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2014. He also reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open in 2015. But Kyrgios has often earned accusations of disrespecting the sport from Nadal and Djokovic.

Nick Krygios controversies vs Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic

During Wimbledon 2019, when Nadal prevailed in their encounter, he twice served underarm and constantly argued. It caused the referee to give him repeated warnings. Furthermore, the Australian was unhappy with his opponent’s speed of play and once blasted the ball. Fortunately, Nadal managed to get the racquet in his way.

Nick Krygios further created controversy by calling Novak Djokovic “a tool” on Twitter. The Serbian number one responded to those comments by saying he respects Krygios’ gameplay. However, Djokovic revealed that off the court, he does not command respect.

Following his second-round win over Gianluca Mager on Tuesday in Wimbledon 2021, Nick Kyrgios hailed Djokovic and Federer. The Australian sees them as an inspiration for millions of people. He also believes they draw fans to watch their gameplay, making them relatable. He underlined that not everyone could be Federer or Nadal or Djokovic.

“But you have to have some people, I believe, that are relatabale, that people can bring other fans to watch, like people that are just normal. I feel like I’m one of those people. I’m Nick Krygios. I know who I am,”

I’m okay with not winning Grand Slams: Nick Krygios At Wimbledon 2021

In contrast, the 26-year old stated he does not put too much pressure on himself for winning grand slams. The world number 60 felt the crowd embracing him and enjoying his return to the sport.

“I’m Nick Kyrgios. I know who I am. I just don’t put that much pressure on myself anymore. I’m okay with that. I’m okay with not winning Grand Slams,”
