Nicholas Pooran is a famous Trinidadian cricketer was born on 2 October 1995, in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago. Ever since he was a young boy, Nicholas Pooran was very fond of cricket and was a big fan of MS Dhoni and AB De Villiers.
Pooran actively participated in all kinds school cricket matches and often broke school records. Pooran graduated from Naparima College, in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago.
Nicholas was born to Latchim Pooran and his father, whose name is yet to be disclosed and not much is known about his parents, as they tend to shy away from media attention.
Pooran was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 16 crore in the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on Friday, making him the most expensive wicketkeeper batter in IPL auction history.

Nicholas Pooran early career
Nicholas Pooran started out playing cricket at the mere age of 16, making his U-19 debut in 2013. Following his power-pack performances, he later joined U-19 World Cup as vice-captain and primary wicketkeeper in 2014. There, he played a wonderful inning of 303 in just six matches. Pooran also secured 143 runs against Australia, which is also the highest score in U19 ODI history.
After a series of consecutive great performances, the young boy quickly gained much fame and appreciation. However, he suffered a chronic ankle injury in 2015, after he got into a car accident in St.Mary’s Trinidad. Nicholas ruptured his left patella tendon and fractured his right ankle which left him sidelined for two years. However, he made a return despite even he doctors staying unsure about his condition.
Pooran faced another obstacle when he got banned for ten months after he opted to play for Bangladesh Premier League instead of continuing with the domestic season. The rising star made a great comeback however, by becoming the top scorer of BPL Season18-19 after hitting 379 runs in 11 matches.
Rise in professional career
Pooran made his T20I debut for West Indies against Pakistan back in 2016. He then joined Mumbai Indians in 2017 for 30 lakhs, but unfortunately, did not get to play any match. That same year, Nicholas joined Islamabad United for the Pakistan Super League 2017 as a replacement for Ben Duckett.
Nicholas then joined the West Indies B team for the Global T20 Canada tournament. Yet again, Pooran joined another team, the Sylhet Sixers team for the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League.
Pooran eventually made his ODI debut against England in February 2019. That same year, the Kings Eleven Punjab bought him for 4.2 crores with a base price of rupees 75 lakhs for the 2019 Indian Premier League. Pooran smashed an impressive record of five sixes and a total of 46 runs in 26 balls for the franchise. In doing so, he proved his dominance in all the forms of cricket.
Following his standout performances, Pooran got selected in the 15-member West Indies World Cup 2019 squad. The left-handed batsman scored his first century in ODI format against Sri Lanka in that tournament. He also became the highest run-scorer for West Indies with a massive 367 runs in 9 matches. Pooran plays for Clarke Road at the club level in the Trinidadian leagues.
