Ahead of the awards show, the organizers announced the list of finalists including some of the game’s biggest names like Connor McDavid, Erik Karlsson, David Pastrnak, Cale Makar, Matthew Tkachuk, and Adam Fox.

The Ted Lindsay Award is named after Hall of Famer Ted Lindsay (formerly the Lester B. Pearson Award), and the finalists were announced on Wednesday, May 10. The award is given out annually to the NHL’s most outstanding player and voted on by his fellow players. McDavid won his fourth Ted Lindsay award after previously winning the honor in 2017, 2018 and 2022.
James Norris Memorial Trophy

King Clancy Memorial Trophy

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is a “sports award given annually to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community.”
Backlund supports the ALS Society of Alberta and also serves as an ambassador for both Kids Cancer Care and Special Olympics Calgary. He has previously partnered with Parachutes for Pets to create Lily’s Legacy. It is a program that allows children in foster care to keep their pets while transitioning into care.
Mark Messier Leadership Award

The Mark Messier Leadership Award “recognizes an individual as a superior leader within their sport, and as a contributing member of society.”
E.J. McGuire Award of Excellence
Winner: Connor Bedard, C, Regina Pats
The award is handed out to an NHL draft prospect “who best exemplifies commitment to excellence through strength of character, competitiveness, and athleticism.”

The Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award is “given to someone who has positively impacted their community, culture, or society through hockey.” The award is named after Willie O’Ree, who is the first black player to play in the NHL.
