NHL 23 early access will launch very soon and fans will be excited to hear that the game will feature cross platform crossplay multiplayer, although it will come with strict limitations for PS4, PS5, and Xbox
So far, EA has launched two of their biggest annual sports properties – FIFA and Madden. Now, its popular ice hockey game, NHL will soon join in with its own new release.

EA have revealed player ratings for the upcoming release. Conor McDavid is the fastest centre for men while Mari-Phillip Poulin has the highest overall for women.
Both the full early access and the EA Play trial launch for NHL 23 is scheduled to launch soon and players will be able to play against other players on different systems.
Will NHL 23 Feature Cross Platform Multiplayer?
EA have confirmed that NHL 23 will feature crossplay, which means it will support cross platform multiplayer for PS4, PS5, and Xbox.
Unfortunately, the game is only available on PlayStation and Xbox and not available for PC gamers. This year’s inclusion of cross platform gameplay is good news and a big advancement to the game.
Crossplay is currently not available in Madden, but it is available for FIFA.
Fans who are eager to start playing NHL 23 can play from October 11 by purchasing the X-Factor edition. They can also subscribe to EA Play for either £3.99 or £19.99 a month to enjoy a 10-hour trial.
While it’s good news that fans can compete across PlayStation and Xbox, the unfortunate news is that it’s quite limited.
NHL 23 Cross Platform Multiplayer Explained
Crossplay and cross platform multiplayer for NHL 23 only works between PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and Xbox One.
This means that there is no cross-gen gameplay at all. PS4 users cannot compete against PS5 users, and the same for Xbox One and Series X/S users. Moreover, there is also no cross-console invitations.
Fans can only enjoy crossplay through matchmaking. In addition, players cannot compete against players on other systems meaning you cannot play on the same team.
So, a player’s teammates will feature only PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S users depending on your platform choice.
Players who buy early access should note that cross platform multiplayer won’t be implemented until the Standard edition launches on October 14th.
