On March 28, 2023, at the age of 76, William Leavy, a former NFL official who managed the Super Bowl XL crew, passed away. Throughout the 20 seasons between 1994 and 2014 that he officiated in the NFL, Leavy announced his retirement on May 13th, 2015.

He officiated the Super Bowl twice. Leavy participated in Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 and Super Bowl XL in 2006, which garnered more attention.
