NFL Playoff Format For 2022-23

The 2022-23 NFL playoff format is set to feature in the same format as the last season featuring 14 teams. While seven of the 14 teams from each conference will make the playoffs, only the No.1 seeds will get a bye to the divisional round. The other 12 teams will then have to start from the Wild Card round of their respective conferences.

NFC: 7 playoff berths. 1st seed gets bye to Divisional Round of NFC.

  • 2 seed vs. No. 7
  • 3 vs. No. 6
  • 4 vs. No. 5

AFC: 7 playoff berths. 1st seed gets bye to Divisional Round of AFC.

  • 4 vs. No. 5

Just last year, the NFL decided to increase the playoff format from the current 12 teams to 14 teams. The new change ended an age-old format that initially began from 1990 till 2020.

The change marked the second modification to the football postseason, after it previously expanded from 10 to 12 teams back in 1990.

2022-23 NFL Playoffs Start Date

The start date for 2022-23 NFL playoffs is on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The playoffs will begin with the Wild Card round.

After the wild card round, the Divisional Round will then start the next week, followed by the Conference Championship games.

Finally, the 2023 Super Bowl will happen on Sunday, February 12 at the State Farm Stadium located in Glendale, Arizona.
