Evans Chebet of Kenya won the New York City Marathon men’s race and Sharon Lokedi of Kenya won the women’s race Sunday. Chebet finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 41 seconds, which was 13 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Shura Kitata from Ethiopia.
It was Lokedi’s first-ever marathon she finished in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 23 seconds — just ahead of Lonah Chemtai Salpeter of Israel. The men’s and women’s winners will receive $100,000 as prize money.
Marcel Hug of Switzerland won the New York City Marathon men’s wheelchair race for the fifth time and finished the 26.2-mile course in 1 hour, 25 minutes and 26 seconds to break the previous mark of 1:29.22 set by Fearnley of Australia in 2006. Hug earned $50,000 for besting the course record.
Susannah Scaroni broke the course record in the women’s wheelchair race, finishing in 1:42.43.

Staten Island is where the 26.2-mile race begins. The runners go through Brooklyn and Queens on their way north. Then, they cross the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan, head north toward the Bronx, turn back to Manhattan, and end in Central Park.

Ashton Kutcher, a well-known actor, is the main attraction at this year’s event. Kutcher has teamed up with Peloton, a company that makes exercise gear and media, to help him train for the marathon. This would help his charity, which is called Thorn.

A number of other stars are back for this New York City Marathon. Tiki Barber, who used to play for the New York Giants, will be one of them. This will be his eighth straight marathon. Nev Schulman, who works for MTV and is the host of the show “Catfish: The TV Show,” will also be there. This will be his sixth New York Marathon.

This year, Marit Bjorgen, a Norwegian cross-country skier; Meghan Duggan, an American ice hockey player; and Monica Puig, a Puerto Rican tennis player who won an Olympic medal, will also run.
The runners also include a number of stars from the shows The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Actors like Matt James and Zac Clark are among them.
