In the ninth running of the New Delhi Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, over 19,000 participants, including some of India’s best runners, will compete for a chance to go to the Olympics in Paris later this year.

Recognised as the nation’s National Marathon, the Apollo Tyres New Delhi Marathon is held annually and is supported by Fit India and the Athletics Federation of India. Its prominence has grown over the years.
Participants will travel through the city’s centre, passing by famous sites like Humayun’s Tomb, Lodhi Garden, and Khan Market, all against the backdrop of winter in Delhi. Under NEB Sports’ careful organisation, the NDM is set to welcome an amazing crowd of 19,000 attendees from 289 cities, 27 states, and 19 nations.
There was not a single Indian marathon runner competing in the Tokyo Olympics, and there is still no Indian qualifier for the Paris Games. June 30 is the last day of the qualifying period. The men’s and women’s qualifying times for the marathon event at the Paris Olympics are 2 hours 8 minutes and 10 seconds and 2 hours 26 minutes and 50 seconds, respectively.
When and where the New Delhi Marathon 2024 will be held?
On February 25, the JLN Stadium in New Delhi will host the New Delhi Marathon, which serves as a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is the starting point of the New Delhi Marathon, which will turn left to head towards Lodhi Road. After that, the participants will cross Lodhi Garden and make a U-turn at Sri Aurobindo Marg.
After turning left again for Khan Market, the runners will retrace their steps and cross the Delhi Golf Club on Lodhi Road. They will race towards Janpath Road to return to India Gate, using the Kartavya Path. They will return to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after crossing Humayun’s Tomb.

What is the prize money for the New Delhi Marathon 2024 ?
Prize money will be awarded to the top five elite runners, both men and women. The champions of the marathons, both male and female, will take home a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh, while the runner-ups will receive Rs 1 lakh.
Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000, and Rs 30,000 will be awarded to the third, fourth, and fifth place finishers, respectively.
