The nine-city series, which is one level below the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, occurs throughout the first part of the season with stops from 8 September to 9 December.

As implied by the name, figure skating entails skating “figures” on the ice. To compete, athletes must incorporate specific patterns or figures into their routines. From being a simple means of transportation on ice, ice skating has evolved into the sophisticated fusion of sport and art that it is today.

Taking part in a Challenger competition enables athletes to accumulate international points and, for some, be ready for Grand Prix assignments. At this level, some athletes weren’t given a Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix Final, which showcases the top six skaters or teams in each discipline, will return to Beijing, the host city of the 2008 Winter Olympics, from December 7–10. On October 20, Skate America will serve as the series’ opening event in Allen, Texas. Subsequent competitions will take place in Canada, France, China, Finland, and Japan.

This weekend (September 28–30) at the Nepela Memorial 2023 in Bratislava, Slovakia, reigning world silver medalists Cha Junhwan and Lee Haein of the Republic of Korea will try to kickstart their respective 2023–24 seasons.

Cha Jun-hwan became the first South Korean man to place in the top three at the yearly tournament when he won a historic silver medal at the figure skating World Championships this year in March. At the International Skating Union World Figure Skating Championships held at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, Cha finished with a new personal-best score of 296.03 points for the men’s singles event.

With a flawless free skate, Cha scored 196.39 points, a new career record. Before it, with a personal-best score of 99.64 points, he had finished third in the short programme.
