Players Under Neil
Nobody could have predicted that 17 years later, the results of his labours would be dominating the football scene in England and elsewhere. When the West Londoner’s youth programme was completely restructured after the die-hard Blues fan, now 55, was installed in his new position, he put a greater emphasis on acquiring and developing the best talent in London and the South-East.
Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been testaments to his efforts in the previous year, signaling a new dawn in Chelsea’s first team of promising youth.
Andreas Christensen, a Bath product, earned his 100th appearance in a Chelsea jersey in the FA Cup fifth round encounter against Barnsley, becoming the first academy graduate to do so since John Terry.
Those that were let go, such as Declan Rice, Nathan Ake, Ryan Bertrand, Tariq Lamptey, and others, were as excellent.
Overall, The SportsGrail estimates Bath has amazingly managed the development – on and off the pitch – of nearly £500 million in football talent over the years.
An ‘INSPIRATION’
Bath, who is currently the head of youth development for Chelsea, received the Eamonn Dolan award in 2020 for his outstanding work in youth development.
For a piece on Chelsea TV, his former students lined up to pay respect to the man who moulded them into the athletes they are today. While his salary his unknown, he is now envisaged to play a major role with Roman Abramovich having been imposed sanctions by the UK government amidst the Russia-Ukraine war.
