The injury comes as a big blow for Forest, who are currently trailing at the bottom half and battling relegation.
Steve Cooper provides Neco Williams injury update
Following the said injury, Steve Cooper gave an update confirming that Neco Williams will not play any of the remaining games this season. In fact, it is unclear how long it will take Williams’ injury to heal.
The 22-year-old collided with his own team-mate Brennan Johnson during Forest’s 3-1 win against Brighton on Wednesday. Following the injury, the Wales international had to undergo an operation to fix the break.
Cooper confirmed Williams’ injury status on Friday morning. He told reporters:
He was playing with confidence, so it’s a blow for him and a blow for us. Everybody saw the collision on the pitch and when someone gets stretchered off, you always fear the worst. It’s a difficult situation for him, he’s recently got back into the team and he’s been playing well.”
Forest under relegation trouble
Williams’ injury comes as a huge blow to Steve Cooper’s side who are currently facing relegation troubles. The team has spent nearly £200 million to acquire new talents ever since their promotion to the Premier League last May.
Despite the huge amount, the team currently sits in 17th place with just one point above the relegation zone. Moreover, Forest only have just five Premier League games remaining against the following teams – Brentford (away), Southampton (home), Chelsea (away), Arsenal (home) and Crystal Palace (away). Two of those games are against a big six club.
Williams who is a Liverpool academy graduate and has already won the Premier League title prior to his exit, also expressed his own disappointment at the injury. The young defender shared on Twitter:
I am gutted to say my season’s over for sustaining a broken jaw.”
