Jitendra Awhad was born on 5th August 1963 and he is an Indian politician who hails from Maharashtra, India, know his family and cast

Presently Awhad is 59 years old.

Jitendra Awhad served as a Minister for Housing and Minority Affairs, at the Government of Maharashtra and he was also the former guardian minister of Solapur. Jitendra is presently a member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra. He represents the Mumbra-Kalwa constituency of Thane city as a Nationalist Congress Party member in the Vidhan Sabha and is a Hindu by religion.

Awhad belongs to Vanjari caste and is married to Ruta Samant, the daughter of Dutta Samant a trade union leader.

He earlier served as the Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra in Medical Education and Horticulture. He was recently arrested after he tried to stop the screening of the movie Har Har Mahadev.

Jitendra Awhadโ€™s Family And Education

Jitendra Satish Awhad is Jitendra Awhadโ€™s full name and he is the son of Lilavati and Satish Awhad. Jitendra studied at St. John the Baptist High School, Thane. In 1981 he took admission in B.N Bandodkar College being a science graduate. In college, he was chosen as the Gymkhana Secretary. Later on, he went on to become the secretary of the All-India Students’ Organization which is a non-political outfit. He began standing up for social causes early on launching a campaign against rising tuition fees in Mumbai University in 1982.

Awhad after completing his Marine Engineering Studies in 1985, undertook a postgraduate degree in personnel management from University of Mumbai. He is also a holder of Doctorate from Mumbai University, the thesis being “The History for Socio-Religious Movement in Maharashtra, a Sub-Alternate View”. Being a political member, Awhad worked in the Kores India Limited of Thane as Asst. In 1996 Awhad was appointed the Maharashtra Youth Congress President.

Jitendra Awhad Professional Career

Jitendra Awhad got influenced by Sharad Pawar during his studying days and he took him as his mentor. Jitendra joined the studentsโ€™ wing of the Indian National Congress and was positioned such as Chief Secretary and General Secretary NSUI, Maharashtra and President of Akhil Bhartiya Vanjara Youth Association. In 1988 Awhad became the Maharashtra Pradesh National Students Union of India Chief Secretary.

After the establishment of Nationalist Congress Party, Jitendra Awhad got elected as one of the first National Presidents of the Youth NCP in 1999. From here he entered into mainstream politics and was elected as MLC of 2002. Awhad was re-elected as an MLC in March of 2008 for a 5-year tenure. In 2009 he participated his first-ever elections and secured victory with a considerable margin from the Mumbra-Kalwa Assembly Constituency.

In 2019, Awhad was inducted into the Uddhav Thackeray cabinet being the Minister of Housing. In March of 2021 after the departure of Nawab Malik from the cabinet, Jitendra Satish Awhad got appointed as the Minister of Minority Development.
