Basketball and especially NBA Players are known to be tall, when a person who is 6’2 says he plays basketball, it may not sound very strange. The average height of an NBA Player is 6’5. You’ll be surprised to know that there have been only 25 players who were 5’8 or shorter to ever play in the NBA.
NBA Shortest Player Of All Time
- Spudd Webb
Height: 5’6
Teams: Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves
He is the only player who was 5’6 or less to ever enter the dunk contest in 1986 as a rookie. What was even more surprising he won that Dunk Contest by beating his teammate Dominique Wikins to become an overnight sensation.
- Red Klotz
Height: 5’6
Teams: Baltimore Bullets
Red Klotz played in the NBA for only the 1947-48 season with Baltimore Bullets and won the championship in the same season. This made him the shortest player to ever win the Championship.
- Mel Hirsch
Height: 5’5
Teams: Boston Celtics
Theoretically Mel Hirsch did not play in the NBA, but the BAA, the Basketball Association of America. He holds the record for the shortest player ever to play in the NBA for 40 years. However, he only played one season for the Celtics wherein he averaged 1.5 points per game.

- Earl Boykins
Height: 5’4
Teams: Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets
Originally Earl Boykins went undrafted but was eventually picked by Denver Nuggets. Although his size was enormously small than the rest of the players, he played a huge offensive role as he was able to score easily.
- Muggsy Bogues
Height: 5’2
Teams: Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors
Muggsy Bogues most popular period was when he played at Point Guard position for the Charlotte Hornets. Ironically he played together with one of the tallest players ever to play in the NBA, Manute Bol whose height was 7’6.
