Declaring this sad news, the NBA wrote on its official Twitter handle, “Longtime NBA official Tony Brown passed away today surrounded by his family, friends and fellow officials after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was just 55 years.”

Tony Brown Professional Career And Education
Brown was a well-known NBA referee who officiated 1,110 regular season games as well as 35 playoff games over a total of 20 seasons. The veteran official who was from Florida had a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Clark Atlanta.
Tony Brown earned All-State basketball honors while attending Atmos P. Godby High School based in Tallahassee, Florida. He spent four seasons G League and three seasons in the WNBA prior to signing with the NBA. Tony Brown was named the official referee for 2002 WNBA Finals as well as the 2002 All-Star game. He also served as a referee in 2001 CBA Finals.
The 55 year old was married to Tina Brown.

After his pancreatic cancer diagnosis early last year Tony Brown has fought courageously through countless rounds of treatment to return to work this past season at the NBA Replay Center. He has always demonstrated dedication, determination and passion that made him such a highly respected official for over 20 years.”
In April of 2021 Tony Brown was diagnosed with stage 4th pancreatic cancer. Tony was fortunate enough to recover in time to work in the following season in NBA replay center . As per his family he recently stated receiving hospice care in Atlanta. Brown initially complained of experiencing stomach pains which he attributed to eating bad sushi.
