NBA All-Star Voting Process Explained
The starters for the All-Star Game are totally determined by the number of votes they receive. The voting system is held between fans, current players and media. Out of which fan’s votes weighs the most with 50% of weightage. While the remaining 50% of votes consist of both current players and the media. Only reserves are picked by the head coaches, with the league commissioner having the authority to make inquiry substitutions if necessary.
The voting is done via ballot, with each vote consisting of two guards and three frontcourt players from each conference. The captains are chosen based on who received the most votes across all four conferences. The captains of both sides then select their teams and players. The captain who receives the most votes across all four conferences will be selected first overall.
One of the eight starters would be their first selection. Each team must have two backcourt players, three frontcourt players, and themselves. After the starters are completed, the captains pick their reserve players, which are selected with the same process. Prior to two weeks before the All-Star Game, the head coaches are selected, with the coaches with the best records in all four conferences.
