The Kabaddi sport was played at the 2022 National Games by sixteen teams, eight in each of the men’s and women’s divisions. At the 36th National Games Gujarat 2022, which is being held in Ahmedabad Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra engaged in a nail-biting final on Saturday. Ultimately, Uttar Pradesh maintained composure and won the men’s kabaddi category. Up until the final minute of the game, when veteran raider Rahul Chaudhari gave a valiant performance to assist his team win the match, the two teams were trading points.
Thanks to a strong start, Maharashtra entered half-time with 11-10 lead but Uttar Pradesh came strong in the second-half to race ahead of their rivals. From then on, Uttar Pradesh continued to dominate and finished 27-23 to emerge as gold-medal winners.
Earlier on Saturday, Maharashtra women’s kabaddi team had suffered heartbreak as they lost to Himachal Pradesh by score of 22-27 in the final of women’s kabaddi. With these results, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh claimed gold medal in men’s and women’s kabaddi event of 2022 National Games respectively while Maharashtra have won silver medals in both events.
What Next for Kabaddi Players?
Right before the Pro Kabaddi League began, the Kabaddi Games at the National Games came to an end. The National Games might serve as a warm-up event for the forthcoming PKL Season, which will start on October 7. Uttar Pradesh players were delighted after winning the gold medal and will be in high spirits when they join their respective teams of Pro Kabaddi League in upcoming week.
