Natalie Curtis quickly made a name for herself by joining the Australian Gliders and winning a silver medal at the Japan Oceania Championships in 2013. Curtis was also a proud member of the Australian Institute of Sport, where she trained and coached a wheelchair basketball team. She also worked with the group Sporting Wheelies to get schools to play wheelchair basketball.
When Natalie Curtis was asked to crawl on floor
After her trouble with Jetstar in October 2022, Natalie Curtis became well-known. The Queenslander was getting on a flight from Singapore to Bangkok when she was told she would have to pay to use a different wheelchair to get off the plane. In Singapore, she had been given a regular aisle wheelchair. Curtis didn’t want to pay an extra fee, so she crawled down the aisle to get off the plane. Soon, her story was all over the news, which made people very angry at Jetstar.
Curtis’s sudden death has sent shock waves through the whole city of Townsville. Aaron Harper, a Labor state MP, met Curtis a few years ago at a local business development centre. He said that when Curtis died, he was very sad.
