NASCAR Cup Series 2022 The Clash At The Coliseum Schedule, Date, Start, Time, Track Length, Format
The Clash at The Coliseum on Sunday (6 p.m. ET) in Los Angeles kicks off the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season, with a lot of substantial changes to the calendar.
This season’s Clash will be a 150-lap exhibition event on the newly created 0.25-mile length track inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which equals to 37.5 miles.
NASCAR began construction in late December, and the inside of the stadium has been transformed into an asphalt track designed particularly for this NASCAR event during the last few weeks.
It’s always been at the Daytona track since The Clash’s debut in 1979, but now it’s moving for the first time.
The 2022 exhibition race will take place on a 0.25-mile asphalt oval created specifically for the event inside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Debut of Next Gen Car
The launch of NASCAR’s Next Gen car was originally scheduled for the 2021 season, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was pushed back a year.
The new vehicle will compete for the first time on the track at the Coliseum before making its official debut in the Daytona 500 at the start of the season.
Schedule, Time And Format
3:00 PM ET- Four Qualifying Heat Races
The top 16 cars from each heat’s top four finishers will proceed to The Clash, with the victor of the first heat starting on the pole and the winner of the second heat completing the front row. The winners of the third and fourth heats will be in the second row, with the remaining 12 cars being placed similarly by heat performance.
4:10 PM ET- Last Qualifying Race
Following the four heats, the 24 surviving cars will compete in two 50-lap last-chance races for a chance to advance to the main event.
Each last-chance race’s top three finishers will advance to The Clash. The last berth is reserved by NASCAR for the driver with the best finish in the 2021 points standings who did not progress to The Clash otherwise.
