They work the hardest to locate those key few tenths in pit stop practice – and as such, they must demonstrate their abilities. That is exactly what the NASCAR All-Star pit stop challenge accomplishes.
But how exactly does it work? What is the NASCAR All-Star pit stop challenge format?
Challenge of the NASCAR All-Star Pit Stop
NASCAR has enforced a four-tyre stop for all cars still in the All-Star race between stages two and three. The vehicles’ entries into pit road, stops, and exits back onto the circuit will all be timed.
Essentially, the challenge is to see who can spend the least amount of time on pit road during the stage two/three break. The teams will be crucial since it is up to them to service their driver as soon as possible and get him going again.
What Do They Receive?
The winner of the NASCAR All-Star pit stop challenge will start in P4 for the race’s final 50-lap segment. He must finish P15 or higher in stage three to be eligible to claim the spot. Whoever wins the challenge will earn a $100,000 USD award for their efforts.
If their driver wins the All-Star, they will receive an additional $1 million USD. The #9 crew of Chase Elliott in the Hendrick Motorsports Chevvie triumphed in the 2021 event.
