A yellow flag was displayed on the final lap, just before the Team Penske driver crossed the finish line, for Rick Stenhouse Jr., who had made contact with the wall. Blaney was just seconds away from crossing the finish line when the yellow light flashed and the race went into overtime since the race was supposed to end with a green flag.
Speaking about winning NASCAR’s prestigious All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway during the post-race interview, he said after winning $1 million as prize money,
“It was about to be bad for us, I thought the race was over. Everyone thought the race was over. I already had my window net down. I do want to thank NASCAR for letting me kind of fix it and not make us come down the pit road.”
When the caution lights came on only yards before Ryan Blaney finished the race to win NASCAR’s All-Star race and $1 million, the checkered flag was already flying. He had to replace his window net and do two more laps.
NASCAR later admitted that this really “probably prematurely called” the last yellow flag.
Blaney’s crew was already rejoicing in the pits, and the driver had already down the window net on his No. 12 Ford after crossing the finish line. However, the All-Star race must end under green.
Cindric was the first to finish the second segment. Blaney finished second, as he had done at the end of the opening stage after leaving the track there. Blaney won the third 25-lap stage and led the remaining 50 laps with Penske teammates Cindric and Logano, their team made the quickest stop between the second and third stages.
