Mzansi Super League is the first domestic T20 league started and held in South Africa. This league is known as MSL 2.0 as the efforts for a tournament of stature failed in 2017. However in the second attempt Cricket South Africa ensured every step to make it a huge success. With 2 editions of this league getting done and dusted, the 2020 edition was postponed due to the on-going pandemic.
Now as the buzz creeps up for the 2021 season, let’s take a look at the top 5 players in the Mzansi Super League who have lifted up the entertainment bar with their stellar performances.
Mzansi Super League Best Players
- Ben Dunk
He is an Australian professional cricketer who plays for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants. Dunk has also played for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. Gaining relative experience Ben Dunk made it big in the Mzani Super League in the 2019 edition by becoming the leading run scorer with 415 runs.
- Rassie Van Der Dussen
Dussen has not had a major impact for the South Africa International team, but was exceptional whilst being the leading run scorer of the Mzansi Super League in the inaugural edition in 2018 by scoring 469 runs. He was a pivotal clog in Jozi Star’s triumph to the championship in 2018.
- Jannemann Malan
He is known as the Cape Town Blitz star and justifies the same while being the second highest run scorer in the tournament’s history with 663 runs. Not only that Malan was the second highest scorer behind Ben Dunk in the 2019 season with a tally of 358 runs, including 22 power packed maximums.
- Duanne Olivier
One of brightest bowlers who lighted up the inaugural season in 2018, Olivier took 20 wickets in just 8 games to become the leading wicket tacker in that particular season. Duanne Olivier plays for the Jozi stars along with Rassie Van Der Dussen.
- Reeza Hendricks
He is the leading run scorer in the league (687 runs) and takes the #1 spot in the top 5 best players in the Mzani Super League. He has a stunning average of 49 runs per game. It is safe to say that Hendricks is the Jozi Stars’ most important player. While Hendricks had a good 2019 edition individually, he could not inspire his team to a single victory.
