The veteran record producer passed away earlier this week at the age of 56.

The artist was well known for his infamous voice over in a number of albums including De La Soul’s Three Feet High, the 3rd Bass’ song The Gas Face and the Rising. His net worth stood at $2 million.
The tragic news of the musician’s demise was confirmed by Rahiem of the Furious Five. Rahiem took to his social media on Friday, November 25th and penned down a heartfelt message.
He wrote, “It is with a heavy heart I announce the transitioning of my brother Don Newkirk. Fifty-six years young.
“Don Newkirk was among the first R&B artists signed to Def Jam records. My condolences go out to his family. S.I.P bro.”
As of now the cause of Newkirk’s death hasn’t been revealed.
For those who are unfamiliar with Don Newkirk, let us tell you, the composer had made his debut solo album titled Funk City back in 1989 with Russel Simmons OBR/Columbia Records.
His 1989’s album got critical acclaim but unfortunately didn’t translate into sales. The album includes hits likes Sweat You and I Desire.
Later in 1992, Russell Simmons motivated the singer to release another album as a result he again recorded a album titled Between Love & Lust with OBR/DefJam.
However, before the album could be released, it was sold by DefJam, eventually it never came out.
After learning of the demise of Don Newkirk’s, social media had been flooded with condolences and tributary messages as Don’s fans are continuing mourning the death of their favourite idol.
One such fan took to Twitter and penned down, “Damn… rest easy Don Newkirk.”
Another one wrote, “Rest in peace to Don Newkirk.”
