Mulayam Singh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi Party and a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, passed away today.
The 82-year-old senior lawmaker passed away as he was being treated at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, where he had been a patient for a few days.

The present leader of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, confirmed the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the party’s founder, in a tweet. Taking to Twitter, he wrote,
“My respected father and everyone’s leader is no more.”

Who Was Mulayam Singh Yadav?
Mulayam Singh Yadav was a well-known political leader from India and was well-known for being the founder-patron of the Samajwadi Party. He has been in the news because he died recently.
He was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai village, Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh, India. His mother’s name was Murti Devi and his father’s name was Sughar Singh Yadav. He had four siblings and their names are Ratan Singh Yadav, Abhay Ram Yadav, Rajpal Singh Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav, and Kamla Devi.
He did his schooling at the local college in his hometown. Later, he received three political science degrees: a B.A. from Etawah’s Karm Kshetra Post Graduate College, a B.T. from Shikohabad’s A. K. College, and an M.A. from Agra University’s B. R. College.
He had two marriages. His first wife was Malti Devi who died on May 3. He had a child named Akhilesh Yadav with her. Later, he married Sadhana Gupta who died in July 2022. He also had one adoptive son named Prateek Yadav who is the real son of Sadhana Gupta and his first husband.
He was fondly called “Neta Ji” by his supporters. He died on 10 October 2022 in Gurugram, Haryana, India. At the time of his death, he was 82 years old.
His Career
Before becoming a politician, Mulayam Singh Yadav was a teacher and a farmer. He was also a wrestler.
He was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh in 1967 after being trained by figures like Raj Narain and Ram Manohar Lohia. He completed eight terms there.
In 1977, he was appointed as a state minister for the first time. Later, in 1980, he was elected president of the Lok Dal in Uttar Pradesh, which later merged with the Janata Dal.
He was chosen as the opposition’s leader in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council in 1982, and he served in that capacity till 1985. Yadav founded the Krantikari Morcha party after the Lok Dal party split. He established the Samajwadi Party afterward.
Throughout his career, he served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for three separate terms and the Minister of Defence for the Government of India.
He had been a member of parliament for a long time and now served as the Lok Sabha representative for the Mainpuri seat. He had previously represented the Azamgarh and Sambhal districts. When he died, he was a member of parliament from Mainpuri.
