Over the decades, Bandra Fair has become an important part of Mumbai’s culture as it is attended by people of all faiths. This week-long fair is celebrated in the month of September each year. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fair was not organized. It has managed to become an integral part of Mumbai’s culture.

Every year, the Bandra fair begins on the first Sunday after the feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is Jesus Christ’s mother. In 2023, the Bandra fair will begin on 10 September 2023 and will continue till 17 September 2023. You should avoid going on the first day as it is generally crowded.

Like each year, the Bandra Fair will take place near the Mount Mary Church and along its steps. People from all over the country have put up their stalls from the top to the end of the road. A number of local delicacies will be offered to visitors by the stall owners. Many of these stall owners have been coming to the fair for years now so the locals are aware of the speciality of each stall.

The timings for the fair in 2023 are from 10 am – 10 pm for all visitors. You are not supposed to buy any entry tickets as it is free for people belonging to all age groups. People who are looking to attend church services should go through the notice board or keep a check on services happening throughout the day.

Significance of Bandra Fair

The Bandra Fair is organized to celebrate the Nativity of Mother Mary. Statues of Mother Mary were found floating near the Church in the Arabian Sea. It was a dream a Koli fisherman had a few years earlier. The fair is been hosted for almost three hundred years now and pilgrims from all religions come to pray and enjoy the event.

People can take home some halwa, and more during this week-long festival.
