Montana Love, the No. 10 junior welterweight on ESPN, won a close decision against Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela in the main event to stay undefeated. Love (18-0, 9 KOs) knocked down Gollaz Valenzuela (25-3-1, 15 KOs) in the first round before being felled in the second. Over the next ten rounds, though, the action died down, and Love triumphed by the same score on all three cards: 114-112.

Montana Love defeated Gabriel Valenzuela in a 12-round junior welterweight battle via unanimous decision in the Dmitry Bivol vs Canelo Alvarez WBA light heavyweight title undercard at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Love (18-0, 9 KOs) was declared the winner by judges Eric Cheek, Max DeLuca, and Patricia Morse Jarman with unanimous scores of 114-112. In the later rounds, Valenzuela (25-3-1, 15 KOs) was the aggressor, countering and landing rights on the retreating Love, however, this wasn’t enough to turn the tables.
In the opening round, Love had Valenzuela on the back foot. Valenzuela had been popped three times with straight lefts. Love hit Valenzuela with a check right hook with 22 seconds left in the first.
Love, a 27-year-old Cleveland native, has fought twice since his breakout performance in August, when he knocked out former champion Ivan Baranchyk in the seventh round. For the first time, Gollaz Valenzuela, a 27-year-old Mexican, was fighting on a world-class level.
