The LA Dodgers came from behind to go on and win 4-1 against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
MLB 2024 World Series Championship winner and runner-up prize money and revenue split details
The Dodgers initially trailed the Yankees 5-0 after three innings, but made the biggest comeback in a World Series game.
The win marks the team’s second title win in five years and the fourth all time win.
Los Angeles Dodgers expected prize money
The MLB does not fix the prize money amount for the World Series winners. Instead, the league awards the prize money based on the postseason revenue among the World Series participants. The league awards the winners with the larger share of the revenue, around 36%. This means that the Los Angeles Dodgers could reportedly take home around $35 million for their win.
Notably, the team divides the prize money among the players and the coaching staff. The league will allocate the prize pool for the teams from the first two wild-card series games, as well as the first three Division Series games, the first four championship series games, and the World Series.
New York Yankees expected prize money
Although the Yankees failed to win the title this year, they will still receive a 24% share of the revenue. This means that they can expect to receive around $25 million worth of prize money.
Previous year prize money
Last year, the Texas Rangers, who won the World Series for the first time, received a total prize money worth $38.8 million. Meanwhile, runners-up, the Arizona Diamondbacks earned around $25.9 million, out of a total pool worth around $107.8 million.
Prize money split structure
Each MLB team is allowed to independently decide how to split the prize money amongst players, coaching and non-coaching staff. Last year, the Rangers reportedly split their prize money in 64 full and 12.56 partial shares. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks split their prize money in 71 full and 11.49 partial shares.
