The NBA has become a lot more liberal in recent years when it comes to permitting its players to consume recreational drugs like marijuana with Miles Bridges revelling in the purple drink
Kevin Durant has spoken out about the importance of the NBA canceling marijuana drug tests. The NBA, on the other hand, still has laws prohibiting the use of more dangerous narcotics.
Miles Bridges Drinks Purple Drank Drink And Smokes Joint On Instagram
In the 2000s, the NBA would not have been concerned about codeine cough syrup abuse, but in the 2010s, it has become a popular drug known as ‘Lean,’ or more widely known as ‘Purple Drank.’ Although no NBA player has ever been penalized for abusing codeine, some may continue to do so recreationally during the off-season.
Because players are not tested during the off-season, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges appears to have decided to indulge, posting an Instagram story of him drinking lean and holding a rolled joint.
Bridges’ off-season activities are his sole responsibility. The legality of ingesting codeine cough medication in this form is a grey issue, so it’s better if Bridges does what he wants early in the preseason. With Bridges’ contract up for renewal in the off-season, this might become a bigger concern.
We’ll have to wait and see if this affects the number of money Bridges can command in the off-season. But many believe it will change league executives’ perceptions of him. Players should be able to express themselves without restriction. Marijuana use is no longer frowned upon in the league. But a player who posts photos of themselves smoking weed could create a hazardous precedent.
Bridges has already deleted his story, but the photo has gone viral on social media. Hopefully, this doesn’t hurt Bridges’ value ahead of a contract extension, where he’ll almost certainly earn a huge raise.
Bridges have stated that he turned down a $60 million contract extension offer from the Hornets after discussing it with his agents.
“I probably would’ve taken the contract if it hadn’t been for them,” Bridges remarked at the time. “They have more faith in me than I have at times.”
