Who Is Mike Leach?
Mike Leach, a California native who was born in 1961, attended Brigham Young University. However, he did not participate in the football team. He graduated from Pepperdine University with a degree in American studies before pursuing a legal education.
Opting For Football Coach As A Carrer
In 1987, Leach started out as an assistant football coach at Cal Poly. Prior to taking the helm as head coach of the Pori Bears, he worked as an assistant at COD. Leach agreed to work as the offensive coordinator at Iowa Wesleyan in 1989, and he remained there until 1992 when he accepted the same position at Valdosta State. Before serving one season in the same position for Oklahoma, Leach spent three years as Kentucky’s offensive coordinator (1997–1998).
Shot To Fame After He Became A Head Coach.
Leach’s first head coaching position came at Texas Tech in 2000, where he served as the team’s head coach. He was the Red Raiders’ coach until 2009. Leach returned to coaching in 2013 after a three-year absence, and in 2014, he was appointed head coach at Washington State. Leach has a career win-loss record of 96-67 combined with 500 records in bowl games as of the halfway point of the 2014 season. In 2008, he won one championship in the Big 12 South Division. Leach has received recognition as the Big 12’s Coach of the Year, the Woody Hayes Trophy, and the George Munger Award.
