Santiago Gonzalez/ Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Nicolas Mahut/Austin Krajicek are ready for the final round in Miami.
Both of the doubles semifinal ties at the Miami Open presented by Itau on Thursday were drawn out affairs.
The ATP Masters 1000 competition’s champions were decided by two match tie-breaks.
Both pairs won their second Match Tie-break in as many games to advance to the trophy round, and on Saturday, Austin Krajicek and Nicolas Mahut will play Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the final.
Gonzalez/Roger-Vasselin defeated Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow 6-4, 5-7, 12-10 as a follow-up to their semifinal upset of top seeds Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski.
The unseeded Mexican-French team also beat seventh seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the round of 32.
Both sets were decided by a single service break before Gonzalez/Roger-Vasselin prevailed in the tie-break that decided the outcome of the match.
Krajicek/Mahut defeated Kevin Krawietz and Fabrice Martin with their third Match Tie-break victory of the tournament. 5-7, 7-5, 10-8.
In the opening round, they beat third-place rivals Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic to earn their first Match Tie-break win.
Despite trailing 6/8 in the final round, the American-French combination took the final four points to advance to Saturday’s championship match.
Gonzalez/Roger-Vasselin, who previously triumphed in Marseille, will contend for their second title of 2023, while Krajicek/Mahut will attempt to earn their first triumph as a pair.
A combination for more than 20 years, Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin will be eager to extend their title run this season.
