The video seemingly catapulted Wendy and her friend to internet fame as “Las Perdidas” and earned them an MTV Millennial Award. Mexico’s Ley Olimpia (Olimpia Law)
Ley Olimpia is a pivotal legal reform in Mexico that criminalizes the non-consensual sharing of intimate digital content. The law is named after activist Olimpia Coral Melo—who famously fought for justice after she also had her private video leaked. The law was first passed in Puebla in 2018, and it later became federal law in 2021. The law particularly seeks to protect victims of digital violence, particularly women, and holds perpetrators accountable for privacy violations.
