Fiji, the men’s Olympic champions, defeated Samoa 21-10 in the battle of the Pacific Islands thanks to tries from Jerry Tuwai, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, and Kaminieli Rasaku. In the final game of the day, hosts and top seeds South Africa were heartbroken to lose to an inspired Ireland team, who scored a victory with a score of 24-14 to hush the home crowd and advance to the semifinals.
Huge celebrations were held earlier in the day after Uruguay’s men defeated the USA to get to the Challenge final.
