The last day of group stage at 2022 Men’s Hockey Asia Cup second-round matches kicked-off with a match between reigning champions India and Japan, we take a look at the results, format, second round schedule, venue, fixtures, points table and standings
The event is taking place at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta, Indonesia, from May 23 and will continue till June 1, 2022. India did the impossible and advanced to the Super 4 stage of the competition after their statement 16-0 win against Indonesia in the last day of first round. Further, India defeated Japan 2-1 in their first match of super four stage to avenge the 1-5 loss in first round.

India trounced Japan 2-1 in the first match of the Super 4s in Jakarta, with Manjeet Singh and Pawan Rajbhar shining brightly. In the seventh minute of the first quarter, Manjeet scored a great solo goal for India, but Takuma Niwa equalised in the second quarter, leaving the score at 1-1 at halftime. In terms of possession, Japan was the more dominant team in both quarters, with four penalty corners; they eventually scored on their third penalty corner, when Niwa scored on a rebound after Suraj Karkera had made a wonderful save.
India, on the other hand, staged a fantastic recovery in the third quarter thanks to Pawan Rajbhar, and increased in confidence as the Men in Blue continued to penetrate the circle. India maintained their one-goal lead for the remainder of the game. India rose to the top of the Super 4s with three points after the win.
