Along with the winners of the Western Hockey League (WHL), Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), and Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the competition features a fourth team that won the right to host the event.

The Quebec Remparts earned a spot in the championship game while the Seattle Thunderbirds defeated the Kamloops Blazers to get to the semifinal. The two teams will now compete against one another in a tiebreaker game to determine who will take on Kamloops in the semifinals.

The 2023 Memorial Cup standings

To decide the playoff seeding, the four clubs will play each other once in a round-robin format throughout three games.

While the Nos. 2 and 3 teams will compete in a semifinal, the No. 1 seed goes directly to the title game. The day before the semifinal game, if necessary, a tiebreaker will take place. For wins in regulation or overtime, teams receive two points, but for every other kind of loss, they receive zero points.
