2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 9 – Tour Finals Results Today, Day 6 Schedule, Date, Time, & Fixtures

In the tie between Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Praggnanandhaa, both players were tied at 2-2 after four games, which took this match to tie-breaker. Even in tie-breaker, both players won one match and hence, Armageddon decider was required. Pragg drew this tiebreaker with black pieces and hence, he was announced as winner of tie against Duda. After defeating Le Quang Liem in Armageddon, Magnus Carlsen admitted that he had hoped to finish the competition with a perfect 21/21 by winning every match in the rapid section. However, if Carlsen defeats Pragg in rapid on Saturday, he will take first place at 2022 Tour Finals with one round to spare.

Wesley So had a poor start to the tournament with back-to-back defeats on the first two days of play. However, he has picked up three points in the following three rounds, including 3-0 win against Shakhriyar Mamedyarov during Round 5 ties. Similar to Wesley So, Arjun Erigaisi struggled in the first half of the competition before improving in the second. After defeating Mamedyarov in round four, the Indian prodigy handed Anish Giri his third straight defeat to overtake his Dutch rival in the standings.

On Saturday, during Round 6 matches of the 2022 Tour Finals, reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen will face off against Indian sensation Pragg, and Duda will face off against Wesley So. While Mamedyarov will face Anish Giri, Arjun will face Liem Le, who will be eager to extend his winning streak.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: Leg 9 – Tour Finals 2022 Prize Money Pool Distribution

A prize of $7,500 will be awarded to the winner of each four-game tie; however, if a tiebreaker is required, the winner will receive $5,000 instead of the loser’s $2,500. From the $210,000 prize pool for the 2022 Tour Finals, champion might receive maximum of $52,500. After the first five rounds, Magnus Carlsen has amassed prize fund of $35,000 and looks set to become champion at this event.
