The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, also known as the Champions Chess Tour 2022, is a nine-month series of nine online chess tournaments featuring some of the world’s best players competing for a prize pool of US$1.6 million. The tour will begin on February 19, 2022, and end on November 20, 2022.

The third leg of the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour will be The Oslo Esports Cup, the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour’s first totally in-person esports event. The tournament will be the first Major of season and it will take place from April 22 to April 28.

For seven days, players will compete in one four-game round per day, with the winner being the one who accumulates the most points – and cash – altogether. The season’s first Major will take place from April 22 to 28, and it will be the third of nine Tour elite-level events.

The event will start from April 22 and will run till April 28, with action starting at 12:00 ET (21:30 IST) every day. Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Leg 3 Players List

In Oslo, Magnus Carlsen is at the top of the leaderboard. After winning both the Airthings Masters and the Charity Cup, the World Champion is leading the 2022 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour with $63,500 in prize money, with Jan-Krzysztof Duda in second place on $25,000. After finishing runner-up in the Charity Cup, Duda earned an automatic spot in the Oslo Esports Cup, where he fought back to take Magnus to tiebreaks on the final day.

Liem Quang Le of Vietnam (quarter-finalist in the Airthings Masters and semi-finalist in the Charity Cup) and Eric Hansen of Canada (quarter-finalist in the Airthings Masters) have both made the cut based on their performances on the tour thus far, and they are joined by four wild cards.

No. 1 in the Netherlands and no. 8 in the world Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Dutch no. 2 Shakhriyar Giri, World no. 10 and Berlin Grand Prix semi-finalist Jorden van Foreest , and 16-year-old Indian prodigy Praggnanandhaa are the four players who will enter the event as a wildcard.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Leg 3 Prize Money Pool Distribution

The total prize pool of the Oslo Esports Cup will be $210,000 with $7,500 going to the winner of each four-match round. If the match goes to tie-breaker, winner will receive $5000 and loser will get $ 2000.

Pragg, who is sixteen years old, has already won $10,000 in two tournaments. However, with up to $7,500 available for each round played in the Major, the youngster has a chance to significantly increase his prize pool.
