This global Paralympics event would be hosted over 10days with almost 736 athletes who will take part in 78 different events that are spread across six sports which are divided into two disciplines include- snow sports which include alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, and snowboarding and ice sports that include Para ice hockey and wheelchair curling.

Finally, at the Shougang Ice Hockey Arena, The Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, BOCOG launched the much-awaited official Games mascots- Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon, during a grand ceremony that took place in the presence of more than 1,600 people.

The Beijing Organising Committee For The 2022 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games has selected the Glowing Lantern as Paralympic Mascot.

Shuey Rhon Rhon, the official mascot for The 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics was introduced in the presence of Chen Jianxin, a Chinese wheelchair curler and notable dignitary to the audience as the official mascot for the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

Shuey Rhon Rhon depicts a child with a Chinese lantern who is looking forward to welcoming friends from around the globe for the mega event. Shuey Ron Ron is radiating positivity and, the glow that is emanating from its heart represents the inspiring warmth, friendship, courage, and perseverance of Para athletes that inspire the dreams of millions of people every day.

The Chinese lantern depicts the culture that is associated with the harvest, its celebration, prosperity, and brightness.

The color Red depicts the auspiciousness and, it is the color of festivity as well which is the best fit for the Games, also the color will be coinciding with Chinese New Year celebrations in February and March 2022.

Shuey is pronounced the same as that of the Chinese character for snow. The first Rhon in the mascot’s Chinese name carries the meaning of ‘to include, to tolerate’, while the second one means ‘to melt, to fuse’ and ‘warm.’ The name depicts the good wish that there could be more inclusive for people with impairments more dialogue and understanding between cultures of the world.

IPC President Andrew Parsons stated, “The Paralympics mascot Shuey Rhon Rhon will become the face of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games lighting up the lives of billions around the world who will watch in awe as Para athletes inspire and excite the world.”
