The meaning behind “Iga’s Bakery” is simply a reference to the scores of Swiatek’s unfortunate opponents. Bagels in tennis, happens when a player gets shut out in a set, losing 6-0. Meanwhile, Breadsticks happen when an opponent wins only one game losing 6-1 in a set.

The popular “Iga’s Bakery” meme comes following Swiatek’s current games where she has been handing those out to opponents. Just recently, Swiatek gave a double bagel to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova during the Italian Open on May 12. She also proceeded to hand out four bagels, one each to Cristina Bucsa and Claire Liu at Roland Garros. Meanwhile, the other two came as a double bagel to Xinyu Wang.

“I don’t want to talk about the bakery”

Although fans are amused by the idea of Swiatek running a bakery, the star is certainly not interest in taking part in the craze. She recently stated:

Look, I don’t want to really talk about that. I really get why people do that because it’s fun and tennis is entertainment and everything,” Swiatek said, according to Reuters. “But from the players’ point of view, I want to be respectful to my opponents. You don’t see the stuff that is behind the scenes – sometimes it’s not easy to play such matches and sometimes it’s not easy also for the opponents.

“I don’t want to talk about the bakery. Twitter can talk about it, but I’m just going to be focused on tennis.”
