This is terribly sad news but you know what, I feel Mat went with his head held high and with dignity. They appeared to be a very positive family at peace with the inevitable. RIP Mat and God bless your family. https://t.co/XDimQq5fhE

After arranging for his son, Alfie to be mascot at his favourite Luton’s game against Birmingham City, Mat and his son were invited to training at the club yesterday.
Later, in a statement he told how he and his son had an “amazing morning” meeting with players like Henri Lansbury, Tom Lockyer and Harry Cornick.
He also revealed that they also got to hang out with manager Nathan Jones, and club legend Mick Harford, who is now Luton’s recruitment officer.
As per Mat, the club legend Mic stood and chatted with them the entire time.
Speaking of his struggle with Cancer, Mat was diagnosed with a malignant melanoma on his leg 5 years ago.
He received his terminal diagnosis 2 weeks ago, after the cancer spread to his lungs, brain and liver. According to him, though it hit pretty hard, he is determined to live every moment.
In his recent interview, Mat said, “It hit us pretty hard but after coming to terms with it – if you ever come to terms with it – we thought, ‘Right, OK, let’s plan for this. Let’s enjoy the time we have left as a family’.”
Earlier this week when he was in hospital diagnosing, he took to his Twitter and wrote how he was “bored” in hospital. He also wrote about yesterday’s Aug 20’s game.
His tweet got thousands of likes and since then he has received tons of messages of support from well-wishers around the world.
Who’s Mat Westwood?
35-year-old Mat Westwood, is a retail worker from Kettering, Northants.
He is now hoping that his supporters will get behind his sister Joanna’s ’32 miles for Mat’ fundraiser on Facebook.
In his interview he said, “She is running a mile a day in August. Her employers have said they’ll match whatever she makes so it’d be great to see that get a boost.”
After having fun at a football match this weekend, their family will head to Lincolnshire to enjoy a holiday by the sea.
