It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”

After 19 months of inactivity at Manchester United, Mason Greenwood has signed a season-long loan with Getafe, with the Spanish club paying no transfer fee and only a small portion of his wage of roughly £75,000 per week. He has a net worth of $1.5 million.

After claims surfaced online in October 2022, the athlete was charged by Greater Manchester police with attempted r*pe, controlling behaviour, and violence. The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges in February after stating that there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” as a result of key witnesses withdrawing their cooperation from the inquiry and the discovery of fresh information. Greenwood refuted every accusation.

Greenwood last appeared for United on January 22, 2022, when they defeated West Ham 1-0 at Old Trafford. He has a deal with United that runs through 2025, with an additional year’s option. Getafe has four points after three games and is ranked 12th in La Liga. On Saturday afternoon at the Bernabeu, they will play against its local rival Real Madrid; however, Greenwood is not likely to be registered in time.

Greenwood might not make his debut until September 17, when they host Osasuna, because there will be a week-long international break after the game.

Greenwood has two more years left to run, with a further year of extension available if the club so desired. The club would have owed about £8 million if they had not been able to sell him. United stated:

Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.

“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
