According to the New York Police department, Alice was found dead on Wednesday, July 27th at her home in New York City. The cause of her death is yet unknown as reported by the NYPD but it is being speculated she died due to age related ailments.
Mary Alice aka Mary Alice Smith was an American theatre, film and TV actor. She was best known for her appearance in the NBC’s sitcom, ‘A Different World’ and a 1976 musical drama ‘Sparkle’.

She also appeared on stage and won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a play for her performance in August Wilson’s Fences in 1987.
After learning the news of her demise, many friends, colleagues, fans and followers took to social media to pay their tributes.
The Tony Awards shared a video of the actress delivering a speech after receiving an award on Twitter.
The official account of The Tony Award captioned the video as, “Rest well to Tony Winner Mary Alice, who passed away. Mary won for her incredible performance in Fences (1987)”.
Colman Domingo also took to his Twitter and paid his tribute as, “A shoulder we all stood on. A round of applause for Mary Alice. Thank you legend. Rest Easy.”

Who was Mary Alice?
85 year old Mary Alice aka Mary Alice Smith was born in Indianola, Mississippi. She started performing in her community from an early age but briefly left the business to become an elementary school teacher in Chicago.
Later, In the 1960s, she again returned to community theatres. As per New York Post, In the early 1960s and 1970s, Alice went on to work in Manhattan’s East Village.
She made her debut in films in 1974 with ‘The Education of Sonny Carson’ and since then she has appeared on many tv shows such as Police Woman, Sanford and Son and many more.
Mary Alice is most recognized for her role in a 1976’s musical drama ‘Sparkle’, as well as for her role as Oracle in Lilly and Lana Wachowski’s 2003 franchise picture ‘The Matrix Revolutions’.
She was unmarried with her net worth standing at $4 million.
